Dr. Adler, Sailing, Says Our Interest In Psychology Is Remarkable.
Dr. Alfred Adler, Viennese psychologist, before sailing yesterday on the Leviathan, said that his stay of several months in this country convinced him that American interest in psychology was highly developed. He thought the keen interest taken in the study of psychology in the United States was remarkable and he was particularly interested to learn of the close connection between psychology and the mental hygiene movement.
Dr. Adler, who formulated the theory of the "inferior complex," said that an international congress on psychiatry will be held in September in Vienna, where crime and psychoses will be discussed. He encouraged the formation in this city of an organization for the furtherance of individual psychology and the study of educational psychiatry, headed by Dr. S. Daniel House. A medical organization to parallel the other organization is being formed by Dr. Walter Beran Wolfe who recently returned from Vienna. Dr. Seif, chief collaborator of Dr. Adler, is due in this country April 20. Dr. Adler said he would return next Spring.
